Healing
The Art
Of Spiritual Healing
by Keith Sherwood
ISBN: 0-87542-720-0
I found this book to be both interesting and puzzling on a few
different levels. It is a small book with a lot of information that
is sometimes hard to grasp and takes a few times rereading to understand
the language and the concept but there is much to learn.
The author is a firm believer in using affirmations when you are
doing anything in life from healing to meditating to walking and
this was a new concept for me. Chapter four goes in depth into this
idea and page 37 is his basic mantra for positive affirmations.
For example “ every day in every way I am getting better and
better” which can be an amazing tool for those who are dealing
with a serious illness since mind over matter and thinking positive
are half the battle. He also goes into what do to with negative
energy and thoughts by saying to yourself “cancel, cancel”
when this happens, how simple and yet how effective.
Further in the book he teaches the reader how to do simple yogic
breathing to enter what he describes as the alpha/theta level. This
is put into easy to understand terms and steps so that the reader
can pick it up with just a bit of practice. I never was able to
this before but now I am able with his basic instruction. This is
a concept that must be mastered because all of his techniques later
rely on this ability. He also describes a simple way to balance
your charkas, which I found helpful and interesting ways to teach
the reader on how to see and feel a person/patients aura and how
to treat someone using that information.
I do have to say however that this book and the idea that it was
in Llewellyns’ magazine was a puzzle to me. I am reiki practitioner
and a believer that “spiritual healing,” means holistic
healing, meaning that as we heal others we are channelling ”
Chi” or universal light energy and Keith Sherwood is a firm
believer in God and believes that he is channelling Gods’
healing powers. There a numerous quotes from the bible in this book,
at least one in every chapter, and with that I couldn’t help
feeling that this book belongs more in a Christian book store than
the Llewellyn magazine.

Energy Body
Connection
by Pamela Welch
ISBN 1-56718-819-2
This book is an eye opener, I always knew that being Aries brought
along certain personality traits but I had no idea of the depths
of personality types depending on time of birth until I read this
book and started to figure myself out. Pamela Welch goes into much
more depth almost like those personality tests that put you into
categories of A, B, C, or D only this makes so much more sense and
goes into more depth. Not only does she give you this information
but, she tells you how to heal and improve your Energy Body Connection
by healing and improving these areas.
By first explaining what the book about and listing out what she
describes as archetypes she helps you figure out yourself and what
drives you, through your personality type. As in my case, archetype
healer (page 79) that is so busy healing others that she neglects
her own needs sometimes to the point of becoming sick themselves.
Pamela then proceeds to give you tools to improve and heal these
distortions of energy.
Guided meditations are provided in the book and they were wonderful
for me because I am just beginning to understand the need for this.
Pamela also says start small five minutes a day for a few weeks
and then work up from there to ten or twenty minutes of meditation.
This was good for me because I tend to jump in with both feet and
then get discouraged quickly so this seemed so simple. The meditations
on pages 33, 223 and 253 are especially good.
Through journaling and asking yourself simple questions which are
provided for you in the book it helps you narrow your focus to the
areas you need to focus on and open up your mind to things you never
knew may be holding you back in your personal healing and growth.
My journey has just begun and I am looking forward to experiencing
the results of the my efforts.

The Healers Manual
A Beginners Guide To Energy Therapies
By Ted Andrews
ISBN: 0-87542-007-9
This book was a treat to read with so much information in which
the author uses simple terms and easy to understand exercises to
teach the reader how to “do it yourself”.
He starts off by teaching the basics on how to feel energy in step-by-step
exercises on page sixty-three to a really fun exercise on page 72
using a thermometer. Did you ever think you could change the temperature
around you enough to show on a thermometer? I didn’t but I
do now after following his instructions. The way Ted Andrews writes
and the exercises he uses in this book makes one think they can
do anything and it is so simple.
In everything he does he has examples and charts that one can refer
back to for information so this book is also like a one stop reference
for everything from the meanings of colours to sound and the ailments
than can be helped using them. His descriptions are in depth yet
easy to understand. One of my favourites was colour breathing and
seeing the air that you breath in and out as particular colour,
he tells what the colours are helpful for and I found it worked
really well. With healing sound he explains which cord works with
what chakra and gives you some examples of music that will work
for each. For example, for your heart chakra one would use F major
and Bach’s Brandenburg Concertos In F Major is a piece of
music that you could use, or you could use a piano or keyboard to
do the same thing.
Chapter ten is all about preparing and using Gem elixirs and Bach
Flower remedies which was a surprise to me because I never thought
that the average person could make these items. The author has an
entire chapter on the subject and his instructions on what gems
or flowers to use for which ailment is great. His instructions on
how to make the elixirs are easy to follow should be no problem
for even a klutz like myself and I can’t wait to try it.
These are but a few of the things that Ted Andrew talks about and
explains in this book, it goes on to cover incense and healing power
of smell to the Miracle of Meridians.
This book was an amazing fountain of information for a beginning
healer like myself but I think there is something in it for even
the most experienced healers out there.

Reflexology
for Beginners
by David F. Vennells
ISBN 0-7387-0098-3
Reading the first few pages of this book had me completely trusting
whatever David was about to teach me. His philosophies of life and
energy and being are so like mine that I knew I had chosen the right
book to assist me in learning reflexology. I like that he doesnt
claim that reflexology will heal all, like so many other books do
in their first few pages. Do this youll be healed......try
the healing powers of.... there isnt any salesmanship
in his words, just the sense of truth, experience and honesty. Wow,
what more could you ask for in a book that is designed to teach
you something. This is a teacher I can respect from the start!
David tells us that we dont need to memorize all the reflexs
and their locations before using these techniques on others. I think
this is such wonderful advice. So many people think they have to
know it all and be a pro before they can work on others....David
follows my thinking when he removes those pressures off of his readers/students.
There is an editing error on figure 2 - reflex 16 is called 14.
I figured this out by looking on page 36-37. also reflex 10 and
16 are missing.
In all, I have completely enjoyed learning reflexology from David.
I have been drawn to learning this technique for years now and Im
so glad that I finally found the right teacher for me.
I highly recommend this book to others.......whether you are new
to reflexology, like I am, or a bit more advanced, the information
in this book is also an excellent resource tool.

Herbal
Healing Herbs
by Ada Muir
ISBN 0875425755
A friend passed this book on to me to read and write a review when
she had read it and did not find much to say about it. Well, there
is not much to say about it except that for a handbook about herbs
and healing it does a good job of discouraging the reader from delving
past the first page.
The first line says it all. The preparation of herbs for
personal use is something that takes advanced knowledge. I
guess that means if you want a book that has some helpful insight
into the healing power of herbs you should find another book. There
is some basic information on harvesting and drying herbs as well
as instruction on how to make salves and tinctures and teas. For
the most part the information is directed toward illnesses of the
zodiac and gives the information for the herbs in that way. For
example if you are Aries and want to know what you are prone to
and the herbs that may help. It gives you basic information on the
herbs and how to take them whether as a tea or tonic but it does
not go into depth. If you are looking for something that helps headaches
or stomach you will first need to find out which signs of the zodiac
are prone to these as there is not an index that makes this information
easy to cross-reference.
If you are a student of astrology and are familiar with all the
nuances of each sun sign (which I am not) this book may prove useful
and informative. As a handbook for healing herbs I find the information
hard to access and when you find what you are looking for there
it there is not much to tell.

I passed this book onto Julie because, as she said, I couldn't find
anything positive to say about it. I found the book to be lacking
in information rather than offering information. I agree with the
concept of the book, the illness' that are common among different
signs, but the info was so limited and scarce in the book that to
actually be useful you would need another book to explain the herbs
that Ada Muir is suggesting.
I realize that this is a small pocket book, but I honestly can't
imagine many people that would need it. If you have the level of
understanding that Ada wants you to have to use her book, in my
opinion, then you wouldn't need the book. I can't see there being
a need for this book, as it stands. Perhaps with much more info
added, it could become a useful tool.

Judes Herbal
Home Remedies
by Jude C. Williams, M.H.
ISBN 0-87542-869-X
I am absolutely thrilled with this book. All of it. I haven’t
found anything that I don’t like, which is a huge achievement
for Jude since I can usually find at least one thing that I dislike
about a book. *grin*
The way she writes is absolute perfection! She explains everything
in the most simple terms possible so that you really get what she’s
saying and you learn so much from her book.
After reading the first 30 pages I knew more about herbs than I
have learned in my life! And because of the way that she explains
the signature of herbs (page 3 - 7), I know that I will always understand
herbs, even if I don’t which herb I’m looking at. No
one has every explained it so simply and with so much common sense
before. I would have to say, without question, that those 4 pages
are the most important part of this entire book and the info on
those pages alone make this book totally worth the money.
Also, as an environmentalist myself, I love the way she reminds
the reader that some herbs may be on the endangered list and to
be aware of that when picking wild herbs. So many people have the
mentality of ‘taking it all so I don’t run out’
instead of just what they need for now. Let the herb continue to
grow and reproduce and get more when you need it.
I appreciated that she didn’t just offer one suggestion for
each remedy. She offers a choice of two or more so that you can
find one that:
1. suits your need
2. requires products that you may already have around the home or
have easy access to
3. simple or advanced depending on what you wish to prepare and
4. in case of allergy or sensitivity, alternatives for everyone.
My daughter gets cold sores and is at a loss to heal/soothe them.
She is anxious to try every one of Jude’s remedies in order
to decide which one will work the best. This will take her awhile
since she wants to give each remedy time to work....but it is an
undertaking that she is thrilled to partake in.
Thank you Jude for writing such an informative, easy-to-understand
guide for those of us who truly want to learn about herbs and their
properties and uses. I will definitely be recommending this book
to everyone I know!
